More significantly, after the game went free-to-play on 10 September 2010 in North America and 2 November 2010 in Europe, Turbine publicly reported that revenues TRIPLED over the following six months — one of the most-cited proof points in the industry's wider shift away from subscription MMOs. NPD Group ranked it the third most-played MMORPG in 2010.
