Soundtrack:Composed by Sue Kasper, Brian Conrad and Justin McCormick, with Kasper as music lead, 18 MIDI tracks played in random order, which is why the game has no single recognisable main theme, Only about ten minutes of music in total: CD audio was rejected because it would have needed over 100 MB against roughly 100 KB for MIDI, and the base game shipped on two floppies, Sim-Melody (Japan only, 1 December 1995, catalogue COCC-13052) — a 20-track arranged album credited to Sue Kasper and Ryuichi Katsumata; no Western album was ever released, The 1995 Special Edition shipped with remade music, and the Sega Saturn port carries a full CD-quality soundtrack

It has all the features, flexibility, art, animation, and power you need to create an environment of your dreams. Choose from a selection of bonus cities and scenarios to rule or ruin as you please. Build schools, libraries, hospitals, zoos, prisons, power plants, and much more... Lay down roads, railways, and highways. Explore the underground layer and build subways and utilities without compromising your aesthetics. Customize different buildings or design your own graphics sets from scratch. This is the ultimate classic Maxis city-building and management simulation. If this game were any more realistic, it'd be illegal to turn it off!

No development budget has ever been reported for this game. Sourced sales: 1.4 million US units between 1993 and 1999 (the ninth best-selling PC game of that period), 500,000 copies in 1996 alone, and 3.4 million worldwide by January 2002 per Maxis GM Lucy Bradshaw. The original US retail price could not be sourced to any period document, so no gross estimate is derived here; the only verified period price is JPY 9,800 for the Japanese PC-98 release. EA gave the Special Edition away free through Origin in December 2014, and it now sells for $4.99 on the EA app.
