Screenshot 12Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake project, which retells the story of the genre-redefining RPG across three distinct games. Iconic heroes Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Aerith and Red XIII have escaped from the dystopian city Midgar and are now in pursuit of Sephiroth, the vengeful swordsman from Cloud’s past who was thought to be dead.
Square Enix has never published a comprehensive official global unit total, so no estimated gross is computed from a company figure. What is on the record: 262,000+ physical units in Japan in the first week of February 2024, rising past 310,000 by March; president Takashi Kiryu stating in May 2024 that PS5 launch sales "fell below expectations"; and producer Yoshinori Kitase later saying the company was satisfied once the multi-platform strategy played out. Third-party aggregations put PS5 sales around 4 million by August 2024 and Steam sales around 1.5 million (roughly $52.6M gross) since the January 2025 PC launch, where it was the best-selling game in the US in its first week and peaked at 40,564 concurrent Steam players — these are third-party estimates, not disclosures. Launch price was $69.99. No development budget has been disclosed.
