The $27 million development budget (plus around $18 million in marketing and distribution) was reported by the trade press rather than disclosed by Sony or Quantic Dream — GameSpot itself headlined it as a report — so treat it as reported, not official. For scale, the same source gives Heavy Rain's budget as $22 million. On the revenue side: over 1 million copies worldwide in the first three months, including more than 70,000 in France, which beat Heavy Rain's French debut; 2.8 million by July 2018, which is the most recent public figure and has never been updated. The game later reached PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive on 22 July 2019 and Steam on 18 June 2020, ported by Virtuos and self-published by Quantic Dream, and the studio has said PC sales of Heavy Rain and Beyond rose significantly in 2022-2023 — but no PC unit number has ever been broken out. Its largest Steam audience came late: 3,330 peak concurrent players in July 2025, against 1,346 in its Steam launch month. Engine note: Quantic Dream builds a new proprietary in-house engine for each game and has never published a name for it.
